Damascus, SANA- The first Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai arrived Wednesday, in Damascus International Airport after a hiatus of nearly 13 years.
“today’s flight constitutes an important milestone in the process of restoring air links between Syria and countries in the region”, the Director of the Public Relations Department at the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, Alaa Sallal, said in a statement to SANA clarifying that this flight transported 286 passengers, and that the company will operate three weekly flights between Damascus and Dubai.
In turn, Adil Al Ghaith, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for the Central Region at Emirates Airlines, indicated that the resumption of the company’s flights to Damascus is an important milestone in the journey of the UAE’s national carrier.
Al-Ghaith affirmed that the resumption of this route after a 13-year suspension, and reconnecting Damascus with Emirates Airlines’ network—which extends to more than 150 destinations worldwide—is a significant step that will contribute to supporting the positive developments in Syria.
The UAE Ambassador to Damascus, Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi, stated that the launch of the first flights by the UAE’s national carrier to Syria is a step that reflects the depth of the fraternal and historical ties that unite the two countries and their brotherly peoples.
