Damascus, SANA-Ministry of Interior issued Tuesday a statement on the latest developments in Sweida province, stating that clashes are still ongoing in some neighborhoods of the city, amid intensive efforts by the government, in coordination with Sweida notables and dignitaries, to restore full control and impose permanent security and stability.
“Internal Security Forces, in cooperation with units from Ministry of Defense, were able to expel the outlaw groups from the center of the city, secure civilians, and restore stability to the city,” The ministry said in a statement posted on its Telegram channel.
Following the operation, agreement was taken to establish security checkpoints within the city and withdraw military vehicles and units of defense forces, in response to the wishes of the residents and to reinforce the state of calm.
“However, those understandings were quickly violated, as the outlaw armed groups resumed launching treacherous attacks targeting police and security personnel, in an attempt to disrupt the security situation and undermine the local understandings that had been reached,” the Ministry said.
It added that in a dangerous development, Israeli occupation warplanes carried out airstrikes in support of those groups, targeting security and military forces, and claiming the lives of several members of the Internal Security Forces and the Syrian army.
