Brussels, SANA – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani said on Monday: “this is the first time for many years that Syria participates in the meetings of the Union for the Mediterranean. We could reactivate Syria’s membership in this union”.
In a press statement, Shaibani said: “Certainly, there is a very important opportunity awaiting Syria for a strategic partnership with the European Union in the field of security, investment and reconstruction.”
In his reply to an inquiry about the recent events in southern Syria, al-Shibani said, “We are still suffering from the bad legacy inherited from al-Assad’s regime. The Syrian state is undertaking a process to confiscate the uncontrolled weapons, to re-establish security and stability and protect civilians in all Syrian territories”.
Minister Al-Shibani asserted that “the Druze community is the responsibility of the new Syrian government. Its protection is the duty of the Syrian state, and that no other party should interfere in the Syrian internal affairs and must respect Syria’s sovereignty.”
