Damascus, SANA-Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, said that civil defense and firefighting teams have successfully halted the spread of wildfires across all axes in the northern countryside of Latakia, marking a major step toward controlling the blazes.
“After extensive and continuous efforts by civil defense, firefighting brigades, and supporting Turkish and Arab teams to extinguish the forest fires in Latakia, the teams managed to stop the fire’s spread on all fronts, which is the most crucial step toward containment,” In a post on platform X today, al-Saleh stated.
He added “Firefighting teams are intensively working to extinguish remaining hotspots and cool the areas already put out, the situation is moving toward containment, followed by comprehensive cooling operations,”
Al-Saleh continued “According to the operations room’s assessment, today’s situation is the best in ten days. There are still threats due to wind activity, but we are working to prevent any renewed fire expansion. We wouldn’t have reached this stage without unified efforts, high-level coordination, widespread public support, and assistance from Turkish, Jordanian, Lebanese, Iraqi, and Qatari firefighting teams.”
For the tenth consecutive day, Syrian civil defense teams, firefighting brigades, and their support teams have been working tirelessly to prevent further loss of green forested areas and contain the fires before they reach the forests of Frunluq and Kassab, which had flames reach their edges in the past two days.
