Al-Shaibani: We will achieve goals in cooperation with our brothers in Gulf and Arab countries

Riyadh-SANA-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani stressed that Syria has been a source of cultural radiation in the region during the past decades, and has gone through serious challenges during the previous years, pointing out that Syria needs support and that in cooperation with our brothers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Arab countries it will achieve the sought after goals.

Delivering a speech during the ministerial meeting of GCC, minister al-Shaibani said “Syria has been a source of cultural radiation in the region, and has gone through serious challenges during the previous years that imposed working on a balance between restoring security and national sovereignty, and achieving transitional justice and sustainable development, and now Syria needs material, intellectual, cultural and political support.

He explained that holding the National Dialogue Conference and forming the committee responsible for writing the constitutional declaration are important steps to achieve political progress, noting that the conference is a dialogue platform to discuss the basic issues that concern the Syrians, such as the unity of Syria and ensuring the rights of all citizens regardless of their background. It also led to an agreement on some basic principles that form the basis for the future political process.

The Minister indicated that the Constitutional Committee is putting the final touches on drafting the constitutional declaration, which will be a pillar for the post-war period, and will guarantee human rights, enhance the rule of law, contribute to building the state on the foundations of freedom and justice, and ensure broad and fair participation for all.

Al-Shaibani added: The challenges facing the political process are great, but we are confident that through our cooperation with our brothers in the GCC and other Arab countries, we will achieve the desired goals.

He pointed out that the suspension of some sanctions imposed on Syria by the European Union is a positive step that stimulates the Syrian economy and helps achieve peace and stability in the country, expressing his hope that the exceptions will expand to other sectors, which will facilitate the reconstruction of the infrastructure and the provision of basic services to citizens.

Minister al-Shaibani said: We are in the process of forming a comprehensive government that includes all Syrian spectrums from different political and social orientations, and we are working diligently to ensure that the government represents all components of the Syrian people, and it will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive plan for reconstruction and reform of institutions in Syria.

He added: The construction process requires huge cooperation and support, and we urgently need the support of friends and partners in the GCC in the education, health and energy sectors, and we are confident that this cooperation will lead to fruitful results that contribute to the reconstruction and stability of Syria.

The Foreign Minister pointed out that the Israeli incursions in the south and the terrorist activities of some parties represent a major challenge to Syrian national security, and to regional security in general, adding “we hope to cooperate with Arab countries in confronting these challenges, protecting regional security and restoring stability in the region.
