Damascus, SANA-In a decisive confrontation against one of the most dangerous social and health challenges, the Ministry of Information, in cooperation with the Ministries of Interior and Health, held a national symposium titled “Investing in Prevention to Combat Drugs”, coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse—a scourge that poses threat to both individual lives and societal security.
Mr. Zaidan Bakir, Director of the Development Media, said that media is not only a partner to covey the event, but it is a strategic side in raising awareness, correcting misconceptions, and combating “the normalization of drug use,” with plans for interactive youth-targeted projects.
As for security movement, General Anwar Abdul-Hay, member of the Anti-Drug Administration, said that despite limited resources and the difficulty of security scene after liberation, the Ministry has launched systematic operations to establish an accurate database of drug production and the smuggling gangs, adding that effort has included close cooperation with security agencies and local communities.
He said that that the eradication of remains of the deposed regime has so far resulted in the confiscation of 320 million Captagon pills and 121 tons of raw materials, eliminating storage facilities and production labs.
