Interior Minister announces the Ministry’s plans for coming phase

Damascus, SANA- Interior Minister, Anas Khattab announced Wednesday, a number of ideas and plans the ministry will work on in the coming days. This follows meetings held with all departments, police commanders, security directorates, and central offices within the ministry to review the current state of work and overcome any obstacles.

The Minister said that these plans were finalized after meetings held with all departments, police commanders, security directorates, and central offices within the ministry to review the current status of work and overcome any obstacles.

The plans that announced by the Interior Minister, as stated on his account on the X platform, included several areas as follows:

In the field of security and police

The Ministry of Interior will be represented in each province by a single official, instead of having a security directorate and a police command, and all branches and offices within the province will report to the ministry representative there, who will be responsible for both police and security.

In the area of criminal investigations

The relevant officials of the Department were tasked with preparing a scientific and practical study to advance and develop criminal investigation work according to needs, equipping laboratories with the latest equipment and technology, the committee began its work a few days ago.

In the field of combating drugs

A meeting was held with officials in the administration to discuss developing its work and providing it with the necessary equipment and human resources.

And this was achieved through holding appropriate specialized courses to train the necessary personnel, especially given the ministry’s inheritance from a country that was unfortunately transformed into a Captagon factory by the former regime.

In the field of technology and software

Several sessions were held with specialists in this field, the first phase will begin with the development of the civil status database, as well as the preparation of a database dedicated to processing the information and requests received by the Ministry, and in the near future, electronic service applications will be launched in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to facilitate the provision of services to citizens as quickly as possible and at the lowest cost.

In the area of traffic

A meeting was held with the director of the Department, and an agreement was reached to transition to a modern form of traffic management, utilizing smart cameras, speed monitoring devices, and tracking traffic violations and accidents.

Emergency solutions to traffic jams in Damascus were also discussed, and these proposals are currently being studied by specialized committees.

In the area of immigration and passports

The personnel assigned by Interior Ministry has focused on ensuring the uninterrupted operation of this department from the first moments of the liberation of Damascus.

The department was immediately renovated, despite the damage and fires that affected its headquarters.
The department subsequently resumed work, issuing more than 160,000 passports and processing thousands of applications, and work is still underway to develop the department

Regarding the fight against remnants of the regime

The Minister of the Interior stated: “We have put an end to a coup attempt planned by a group of officers of the ousted regime, and it is now a thing of the past, thanks to the efforts of our forces and our people.”

Subsequently, we have begun updating information in coordination with the relevant authorities and reviewing the achievements made in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense. We also agreed to develop the department responsible for prosecuting criminals by strengthening coordination with other security agencies within the ministry, which will contribute to consolidating security and stability.”

In the area of human resources, planning, structuring, and public policy

All stakeholders were informed of the need to develop the structure of the Interior Ministry to meet the needs and tasks required, and work continues in this regard, with the goal of establishing an organizational structure that responds to these needs and contributes to establishing strong relationships between all entities affiliated with the Ministry of the Interior.

In the prison sector

This issue evokes painful memories for Syrians, and several meetings were held with specialists from this administration to identify obstacles and address them.

The Ministry works to transform prisons into platforms for the rehabilitation of detainees, enabling them to become integrated, productive, and active members of society.

Recently, an agreement was reached with the Department of Construction to temporarily rehabilitate existing prisons until new detention centers are built to contribute to achieving justice and ensuring respect for detainees’ rights.

In the field of solving problems and inquiries

For the next twenty days, the Complaints Department will be activated in Damascus city center, facilitating customer access and ensuring that their complaints are received and processed in accordance with legal procedures.

A similar branch will later open in Aleppo to ease the burden on residents, and additional branches will be gradually established to cover all governorates.

In the area of international cooperation

Several specialized missions were sent to various countries to learn about the latest developments in police and security science, several delegations were also received to discuss the development of security and police work and the necessary courses.

In the near future, the Ministry looks forward to increased cooperation and coordination with all countries, particularly neighboring countries, to address existing challenges, including the fight against Daesh, border control, and reducing the spread of drugs and organized crime, among others.

Concluding the announced plans, Minister Khattab wrote: “We promise our citizens that, in the Ministry of the Interior, we will work quietly so they can live in peace and security, we will remain vigilant to preserve their safety and create an environment in which all Syrians enjoy dignity and freedom, after having been deprived of them for more than fifty years.”
