New York, SANA-Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani stressed that the terrorist organizations’ attack on Aleppo is a blatant assault on Syria’s sovereignty, pointing out that the West, led by the United States, uses terrorism as a tool to implement its political agendas in the region.
During an emergency session of the Security Council on Tuesday to discuss the terrorist attack on Aleppo, Iravani said: The Islamic Republic expresses its deep concern over the escalating situation in Syria.
The recent developments, especially those carried out by terrorist organizations such as “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham,” seriously threaten the sovereignty and stability of Syria.he added.
He went on saying that the terrorist organization launched a large-scale attack on the provinces of Aleppo and Idleb, which led to tragic and devastating results.
Iravani said that the terrorist organizations deliberately targeted the Iranian consulate in Aleppo, indicating that attacks on diplomatic and consular premises are a flagrant violation of international law and are strictly prohibited.
The responsibility for this brazen assault and violation lies with the countries that arm and support these terrorist groups, enabling their continued aggression and violations of international norms. He added.
Iravani pointed out that the terrorist attack directly undermines the agreements that established the Idleb de-escalation area under the Astana formula process. In the 22nd Astana Format Meeting, held on 11–12 November 2024, the participating parties voiced grave concern over the presence and activities of terrorist groups that endanger civilians both within and beyond the Idleb de-escalation area.
